Yesterday our school was buzzing with excitement over the arrival of the space shuttle Enterprise. I mostly kept thinking about this Enterprise and smiling to myself.
I didn’t get to see the shuttle making it’s way to New York, but another group of students were up on our rooftop playground, and they did! One of my lovely coworkers snapped this shot of the kids. It made the New York Times website today! First picture on the page! So fantastic.

#star trek script is the best script

Amen to that

If this commentary is real, I need a hard copy. I’ve heard that Damon adds stuff like that to his scripts, but I don’t know about Orci and Kurtzman.

I must confess that one of the reasons I am most excited about another Trek movie is that we’ll get more gems like this. Let the press tour filming begin!

What’s up, SpockA little while later in our conversation, speaking of the cultural bipolarity that can see gay marriage legalized in New York in the same year that yet another gay teenager, Jamey Rodemeyer, was bullied and killed himself, Quinto says, “And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.”

See that hanging off of him? It’s a RED SHIRT. Damn you, JJ Abrams. Damn you.

The trailer for 50/50 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen. This film looks pretty great.

And by “great” I mean “incredibly likely to make me laugh and then sob within minutes.” Looking forward to it.

ETA: Holy mother of pearl, Michael Giacchino did the music! Aaaaaand, I’m sold.

Enterprising Young Men - Michael Giacchino

Ever since I was little I was fascinated by the adventures of the Starship Enterprise. A crew of distinct personalities and upbringings working together keeping galactic peace and exploring places no one has gone before. It brought me to new worlds, stretching my imagination to wild lengths. It taught me about the human condition, our flaws and strengths as living beings with the power to influence our surroundings in measurable ways. It showed me a bright future. A future of unity, prosperity, and adventure where even amongst our differences we stand together exploring the farthest reaches of our universe. And when I saw the brilliant reboot of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, I was in complete awe. My mouth was agape the entire time. I was dazzled by the wicked visual effects that brought a classic to the modern era, bringing a creative new vision filled with it’s old-school sensibilities. I love Star Trek and everything it represents. It brings me back wonderful memories of my childhood and still manages to captivate me with every new incarnation. Live long and prosper.

“Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

I was furious when Star Trek wasn’t nominated for its score, because the music is such a huge part of the film. This is the first time we see the ship and it’s this incredible moment and the music ties into it so perfectly. Michael Giacchino is a genius. He won that year for Up, which is great, but Star Trek…Star Trek. His work on that film was amazing. Here it is live—so magical.

(As was Hans Zimmer’s work for Inception. I still think he was robbed.)

This might be the greatest Star Trek macro ever created. It’s certainly up there.

How can they be expected to fly when they can’t even fit inside the starship?
