The Jonathan Chait one looks like it will be equally fascinating. Except I don’t have time to read the whole thing right now. (via turnabout)

Here is my explanation: Liberals are dissatisfied with Obama because liberals, on the whole, are incapable of feeling satisfied with a Democratic president. They can be happy with the idea of a Democratic president—indeed, dancing-in-the-streets delirious—but not with the real thing. The various theories of disconsolate liberals all suffer from a failure to compare Obama with any plausible baseline. Instead they compare Obama with an imaginary president—either an imaginary Obama or a fantasy version of a past president.

If you’ve got student loans, you’re going to want to watch this video.

President Obama just took two major steps to make life easier for people with student loans, and there’s a good chance you or someone you know will benefit from them really soon. After you’ve watched, tweet/re-blog/Facebook it to get out the good word.

I sincerely hope that I’ll be able to benefit from this. Those students loans hurt.

Statement by the President on the Passing of Steve Jobs

shortformblog:

Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.

Bolded our favorite line from this. (Thanks Matt for sending this along)

Inside the White House: Letters to the President”
Every day, President Obama reads ten letters from the public in order to stay in tune with America’s issues and concerns. “Letters to the President” is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the process of how those ten letters make it to the President’s desk from among the tens of thousands of letters, faxes, and e-mails that flood the White House each day. August 3, 2009.

This is one of the things I love about President Obama. It’s obvious that we still have a long way to go and it’s frustrating because there is so much that needs to be taken care of, but I have faith that he is a man who is doing his best to serve his country.
