A little while later in our conversation, speaking of the cultural bipolarity that can see gay marriage legalized in New York in the same year that yet another gay teenager, Jamey Rodemeyer, was bullied and killed himself, Quinto says, “And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.”

What I feel strongly about, after being in a number of Hollywood movies, is that I am a Japanese actor. What I mean is, in Japanese, we say Japanese actors are more like brush paintings, not an oil painting. We’re not as colorful as Hollywood actors, we’re just black and white, but you can imagine and discover colors and shades in those tones. I think, as a Japanese actor, I should act and express the mixture of what I’ve been seeing, eating, and smelling since I was little. So, as long as I can show those things through acting, and when my mythology and my role fit together well in a movie, it’s meaningful for me to be an actor.~Kensaku Watanabe.

It figures that I’d post this an hour and a half before doors. Let’s blame it on the fact that I’m high on cold medicine, shall we?
I interviewed Xavier Rudd a few weeks ago and was completely blown away by everything he had to say. There are lots of people who talk about the energy in the world and the importance of conservation, but it seems like there aren’t a lot of people who actually believe it. This dude is totally genuine and brimming with positivity and intelligence.
